Fleas and Ticks are tiny, but their impact on your life and in and around your home can be significant. These ectoparasites depend on blood for sustenance, making them unwelcomed guests in any home! Not only do these parasites feed off the blood of animals or birds you may have in your home as pets, they could even find a new host – YOU… and other members of your family! They also like to lay eggs around or near the hosts from which they draw sustenance so it’s important to take the proper steps for flea control in order to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your pets.
Pest Medic Pest Control offers Flea and Tick solutions with the “Oklahoma Three Step” approach.
We strongly recommend partnering with a veterinarian to ensure proper pet treatment thanks to their superior on-animal products.
We use specially formulated interior treatments that eradicate existing pests as well as prevent future generations of fleas from developing. This includes carpet and flooring, furniture, and upholstered items, with a special focus on areas where the animals spend time.
Exterior treatment consists of treating with materials that kill adult and immature ticks and fleas, and also break the life cycle of fleas, preventing future generations. Key areas teated would be especially areas where pets lounge, shaded areas under trees and shrubs, the perimeter of the structure in the area where the pets spend time, and the turf, focusing also on areas where the pets move, play, and lounge. Low-growing shrubs, etc. may also be treated, in the case of tick control, and a barrier of control may be applied, depending on the tick and flea infestation adjacent to the property.
Flea and tick inspection can involve inspection of the pets, walking across interior floors and observing any fleas attracted to lower pant legs, walking the turf and outdoor areas looking for signs of both infestation, and areas that are common lounging areas for animals. Discussion of bites on customers and the location of the bites, sightings of fleas and ticks on their pets. Discussion of any feral animals in, under, or around the structures. Stray cats gaining access to crawl space under the house, for example. Simply put, looking for any resource site that would be conducive to flea or tick reproduction and harborage.
Pro Tip: If you are planning to clean your carpets, now is the ideal time. This will greatly remove Flea and tick adults, immatures, and eggs. The treatment would be applied after the carpet is cleaned.
We’re passionate about helping people just like you get rid of unwanted pest problems. As such, we are proud to be the only pest control company in Tulsa, OK promising excellence in value, service, and trust.
A frustrating thing that occurs with the flea life cycle, is that there is a delayed emergence from their pupal (resting) stage prior to becoming an adult. The pupae are stimulated to emerge after sensing the vibration of foot traffic, such as pets and humans walking across the carpet. Voila… out come hungry fleas. The fleas will eventually die from the materials that have been treated, but with heavy infestations, it can seem as if the treatment didn’t work. The customer needs to vacuum these areas daily. Often this will be isolated to where the pets have spent the most time. The vacuuming stimulated the fleas to emerge, get into the material that will kill them, and ultimately solve the problem.
The fleas we deal with are mainly the Cat Flea Ctencephalides felis, and to a lesser extent the Dog Flea Ctenocephalides canis. The distinction is not important in terms of control. Disease discussion in our area is mainly related to the flea transmission of tapeworm, but not a major issue for humans.
More importantly, historically is the Oriental Rat Flea Xenopsylla cheopis. It is not a pest in our area, and is only rarely found in the wild in the western US. It is the vector the disease that killed thousands of humans in the middle ages. Mentioned only to let customers know that we do not have this problem in our area.
Fleas and ticks can be introduced from feral, wild animals, etc., so re-exposure is always a possibility. Also, when pets are exposed to other pets the fleas and ticks can be shared.
Ticks are an especially common pest for pets to pick up when out in nature. They can not only get on your pets, but can share them with humans. Also, any time humans come in contact with deer habitat, they are in contact with deer ticks,Ixodes scapularis, which spread Lyme Disease, and several other diseases. Along with several other ticks that we experience in our area, both Ticks and the diseases they can share are of concern, especially here in Eastern Oklahoma/Tulsa area.
You and your pets can return outside after application once it dries, which depends on humidity.
